Samsung set to reveal mobile chipset
This months top story comes from Samsung’s Mobile division who are reportedly set to reveal its first in-house mobile chipset next month. Samsung Mobile Division CEO TM Roh is expected to give a teaser about the high-end processor at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event.
The new processor is expected to be developed for the Galaxy S25 launched in 2025. The chip is likely to be made using second and third generation 3nm gate-all around and if successful could see Exynos chips disappear from Galaxy smartphones and tablets forever.
Qualcomm's new automotive processor chip
Our second story comes from Qualcomm who have released a new automotive processor chip which is set to rule them all.
The new chip has been designed to handle both driver assistance features and more standard functions relating to the infotainment system, both functions which are currently handled by separate semiconductors. This new chip will mean automakers will only need to purchase a single chip from Qualcomm rather than multiple making it a much simpler and cost effective business option.
New Tesla Chip Supplier
The final story today comes from Tesla who have chosen TSMC as its new chip supplier for future self-driving cars.
The EV company will obtain 4mnm chips from TSMCs new factory in Arizona, the Taiwanese semiconductor giant fended off competition from Samsung to secure their massive order. The new deal is set to make Tesla one of TSMC’s seven biggest clients and the first EV clients.
