RWE and National Grid Launch Community Offshore Wind
Our headline story this month is following on from the New York Bight offshore lease auction in February. RWE and National Grid Renewables who were one of the big winners with a $1.1 billion bid have launched a new joint venture in the US called Community Offshore Wind, their project has the potential to host 3GWs of capacity enough to power 1.1million US homes.
Sam Eaton RWE Executive Vice President for Offshore Development in Americas was quoted as saying
“We look forward to building our offshore business in the US, creating opportunities to deliver clean energy, good local jobs and private investment.”

Nextracker unveils new Horizon-XTR Tracker
Our next story focus on the solar industry and specifically Nextracker and their new Horizon-XTR tracker.
The tracker was designed to help developers who are dealing with uneven terrain as is now expected when working on projects in the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast.
The Nextracker Horizon XTR is a terrain-following single-axis tracker that addresses sloped, uneven and challenging terrains, early returns on utility-scale sites showed savings in the millions attributable to reduced grading and shorter piles - yes, steel piles can be shortened both above and below grade while following the terrain.
New York breaks community solar record
Staying with Solar and New York State has become the nations largest and most active community solar market hitting 1GW of community solar installed and operational across the state, the milestone edges out Minnesota, which has installed 830MW of operational community solar capacity as of February 2022.
Invenergy and GE complete America's largest wind farm
Invenergy and GE Renewable Energy are celebrating the completion of the largest wind farm in North America at 998MWs. The Traverse Energy Center has been developed for American Electric Power achieving commercial operations with 531 GE turbines to generate enough power to power more than 440,000 homes on Oklahoma.
Equinor to create regional offshore wind hub in South Brooklyn Marine Terminal complex
Equinor its partner BP announced an agreement to turn the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal complex in Brooklyn New York into a major regional hub for offshore wind. The offshore wind projects on the US east coast are key building blocks to accelerate profitable growth in renewables and Equinors ambition to install 12-16GW off renewables by 2030.
AMPYR Energy develops 5GW solar project
Finally a new joint venture AMPYR Energy USA headquartered out of New York has goals to develop 5GWs of utility scale solar projects across the US. The new company is a joint venture between European giants ASE who will be bringing their experience of developing large scale renewable power projects globally to the venture alongside Hartree who have expertise in power trading analytics and zero-carbon solutions.
